Recognizing Artist Soldiers in the Permanent Collection
Monday, May 25, 2020 — Monday, Sep 07, 2020
Every summer, the Georgia Museum of Art participates in the National Endowment for the Arts’ Blue Star Museums program, which offers free museum admission to military families from Memorial Day to Labor Day. This year’s version of the program (2020) is understandably canceled, due to COVID-19, but we wanted to do something anyway.
In the past, we’ve created self-guided tours of our permanent collection, highlighting work with military themes or artists who served in the military. This year, we decided to make an online exhibition focusing on the latter, with details about the artists’ military service and how it related to their art when it did. It’s organized chronologically and moves beyond the United States.
