Georgia Museum of Art

Welcome back!

Hi! We're excited to welcome you to the Georgia Museum of Art. Here's what to expect on your visit:

Georgia Museum of Art

We have free timed ticketing to limit the number of people in the building at one time. Please reserve your tickets below, then bring your print-out or mobile device with you to the museum. Check in with us at the front desk during the half-hour time slot you selected and then go upstairs to enjoy some art. You can stay as long as you like.

Wear a mask over your mouth and nose. Athens-Clarke County and the University System of Georgia require it, and it helps keep all of us safe. If you forget yours, we’ll be happy to give you one to use. Visitors younger than 11 do not need to wear one but are welcome to.

Georgia Museum of Art

Our hours have changed. We’ll be open Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.

Give each other space. Please keep at least 6 feet away from other groups, visitors and staff members. We’ll be limiting capacity in special exhibitions and spaces like the Museum Shop, locker room and elevator. You can help by leaving larger bags at home or in your car and by using the stairs if you can. Clean your hands. We’ll have hand-sanitizing stations throughout the building and will be cleaning surfaces more frequently than usual. You can use the push-buttons by exterior doors to avoid the handles. Water fountains are covered.

Not feeling well? We’ll see you when you’re doing better. This precaution holds true for staff members, too, as well as anyone exposed to or diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past 14 days.

We’re limiting print materials. We’ll have printed gallery maps if you need one, but brochures and our newsletter are digital only for the movement. You can access them and the gallery map through posted QR codes. Just take a photograph with your phone’s camera, and it’ll pull up the brochure.

The shop is open but is limiting the number of visitors at one time to 5. Sanitize your hands, then ring the doorbell to get our attention.  Please follow the directional arrows and pay with a credit card (we’re not accepting cash). Leave food and drink outside.

What about events? We’re limiting in-person events for now, including group tours, but we have many virtual events. You can request self-guided tours and virtual tours through this form on our site.

What can I see at the museum? Your favorites in the permanent collection are still on view, as always. Temporary exhibitions are listed on our website, and we have online exhibitions available at any time.

Any other rules? Bring your museum manners as usual. No food or drink is allowed upstairs. Look and learn but do not touch. Remember to enjoy yourself. We’ve missed you.

Other Questions?

Our hours are Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. We also close occasionally for some federal holidays.

Parking for the Georgia Museum of Art is available in the Performing Arts Center (PAC) parking deck, which is located at the rear of lot E11 off River Road. The deck is managed by UGA Parking Services, and the meter is on the first floor; you must know your license plate number to use the meter. There is no free visitor parking on campus during regular business hours. For information on fees and on campus parking in general, please contact UGA Parking Services directly by phone at 706.542.7275, email at parking@uga.edu or by visiting their website at www.parking.uga.edu. Unfortunately, the museum is not permitted to validate parking.

Parking in the PAC deck is free on Saturdays and Sundays. Free parking (that is, parking without a permit) is available in surface lot E11 on Saturdays and Sundays and after 4 p.m. on weekdays. If the PAC deck is full, visitors are encouraged to park in the East Campus Deck.

There is parking in the small lot located directly below the museum (accessible from Carlton Street) for visitors with disabilities. If your mobility is impaired and you need other assistance with transportation, please call UGA’s Campus Transit office at 706.369.6220.

Information on bus parking for tour groups is available here or by calling 706.542.4662.

If you are on a motorcycle, you may either park in the museum’s lot accessible from Carlton Street or park in E11 and call Parking Services at 706.542.7275 with your tag number so they know not to ticket your vehicle.

Admission is free, although we gladly accept donations.

Food (including chewing gum) and drink are allowed in most areas on the museum’s ground floor, including in the Jane and Harry Willson Sculpture Garden. They are not allowed on the second floor (where most of the art is) or in the M. Smith Griffith Auditorium. There are water fountains on the ground floor and the second floor.

We do not have a café. You can purchase snacks and cold drinks in the Museum Shop.

No. The University of Georgia is a tobacco-free campus.

Yes. You may photograph anything in our permanent collection and in most temporary exhibitions (depending on lenders). Please don’t use a flash, tripod or selfie stick. If you need to use any of those things for a project, contact the museum’s department of communications for permission.

It depends. Items such as purses, parcels, briefcases and backpacks that measure more than 8 1/2 x 11 x 6 inches and all umbrellas must be checked in the coat room behind the front desk in the lobby, where we have cubbies and lockers. The Georgia Museum of Art does not assume responsibility for lost or stolen articles.

Absolutely. We do not allow backpack-style baby carriers (for the same reason we don’t allow backpacks), but all other methods of baby transportation are fine. Breastfeeding is allowed anywhere you feel comfortable, and we have changing tables.

We do, by the museum’s side entrance.

You may draw with pencils on a portable sketchpad. Pens, markers and paint are not allowed in the galleries. All other requests should be directed to the museum’s registrars.

We do, with a wide variety of levels and exciting benefits, all of which fund our programming.

Most of our volunteers either participate in our community docent program or work with our membership on events. Click here for more information about volunteering.

You can use our tour request form or, if you have more questions, call 706.542.4662 and ask for our education department.

We do, for events from weddings to commencements to business meetings and even the occasional high school prom. You can find out more about private eventshere, but they are on hold due to COVID-19.

You can search our collections database here. If the object you’re looking for doesn’t show up, that doesn’t necessarily mean we don’t have it. The database is always a work in progress. Please feel free to contact us through the web form and we’ll get back to you.

Maybe! All job listings, including for faculty positions, are posted through our parent organization, the University of Georgia, and applications must be made through its human resources department.
