Youth and Family Programs
Art Adventures
Athens-area community organizations, day care centers and summer camps are invited to explore the museum as part of our free summer program. Art Adventures participants discover the museum’s permanent collection or temporary exhibitions on an interactive tour with trained student museum guides. Through engaging gallery games and an art activity, the program helps school-aged students look more closely at the world around them and make personal connections with works of art.

Art Cart (After Class)
Art Cart (After Class) is a free, monthly choose-your-own-adventure–style after-school program featuring a changing lineup of gallery activities, games and art-making projects. Each month the museum’s art carts will be in a different gallery, and families are invited to visit after school and participate in a variety of activities and hands-on experiences inspired by the works of art on view. All Art Cart (After Class) projects are self-directed and relate to each other. Families and other visitors can complete just one activity or engage deeply with the art by completing all the activities available. For more information, contact Emily Hogrefe-Ribeiro at ehogrefe@uga.edu or 706.542.0448.
Backpack Tours
Check out a Backpack Tour from the museum’s front desk and you’ll have all the supplies you need for a fun gallery adventure. Each backpack includes touring tips, activity cards and a bag of goodies that can be used in any gallery. There is no right way to complete backpack activities. Go at your own pace and enjoy them in the best way and best order for you. Available in English and Spanish. Questions? Contact Sage Kincaid at sagekincaid@uga.edu or 706.542.8863.

Family Day
Every month, kids of all ages and their families come to the museum to see and make art. At your own pace, explore new exhibitions every month and create works of art you can take home in the Michael and Mary Erlanger Studio Classroom. Each Family Day includes a printed guide, fun gallery activities and a kid-approved art activity. Special demonstrations by local artists and performers are also frequently included. This program is free and runs from 10 a.m. to noon one Saturday each month. For more information, contact Sage Kincaid at sagekincaid@uga.edu or 706.542.8863.

Off-site Outreach
If you can’t come to the museum, let us bring an artful experience to you. The education department is available to discuss customized offsite opportunities that include festivals, community centers and other public settings. For more information, contact Sage Kincaid at sagekincaid@uga.edu or 706.542.8863.
Just My Imagination
JMI provides participants with an art-making experience at venues across the state of Georgia. Your organization may host an artist-led workshop developed to give individuals a basic foundation from which they can build their skills long after the class has ended. Choose from a variety of workshop topics including watercolor, printmaking, bead weaving and drawing. Just My Imagination workshops are recommended for children ages 7 to 14 (chaperones required) and scheduled based on availability on Saturdays. This program is sponsored by the Turner Family Foundation in memory of Nancy C. Turner. For more information, contact Sage Kincaid at sagekincaid@uga.edu or 706.542.8863.
Teen Studio
Engage with special exhibitions, learn about new art materials and techniques and meet other teens at this free program offered every other month. Every other month, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on a Thursday, teens visit the museum to spend an evening in the galleries and studio classroom. After fun gallery activities, teens create their own works of art in the Michael and Mary Erlanger Studio Classroom. With over 20 special exhibitions at the museum each year, each Teen Studio is unique and introduces new materials and topics. Free pizza included. For more information or to reserve a spot, contact Sage Kincaid at sagekincaid@uga.edu or 706.542.8863.
